Portopia 2016 – What You Missed

IMG_4574Do you love Port? Do you collect Port? Or do you just like to learn about Port? If so, then mark your calendar for next year’s Portopia event.

Portopia is an educational event and is the pinnacle of our annual Port month. At this walk around event, our guests experience culinary creations made or paired with different New-World Port vintages dating back to 2000. As you visit each station, learn that Port is not just a dessert wine and that it can be enjoyed at all times of the meal. In between stations, relax in our cellar living room.

IMG_4563Our guests were able to purchase tickets to one of three start times and each session was limited to just 30 people. With just 30 people attending each session, the staff was able to spend time educating our enthusiasts.   This allowed everyone the opportunity to savior each food and port pairing and understand why we chose each menu item. (We “painstakingly” spent many hours prior to this event pairing the right appetizer, main dish or dessert with each port vintage). In between stations, guests relaxed in the cellar living room or cozied up to a heater.

There were eight food and port pairings to indulge in, but of the eight, there were definitely several standouts. The crowd favorite was station one with the 2013 Rucksack Seco (a dry Portuguese wine made from three of our port varietals) and Ryan’s pizza creation. Voted number two, was station seven with the gigantic chocolate decadent truffle dusted in bittersweet cocoa powder with IMG_4582the 2015 futures.   The fig and goat chèvre baby green salad with the 2006 Port dressing at station four was a hit. (Who thinks about making a salad dressing with port?) And of course, Paul’s famous, much sought after Tawny, capped off the event favorites at station eight.  Click Portopia Menu 2016 to see a full menu.
