Roasted Sweet Corn Bisque with Poblano Sour Cream – July, 2011

Sandra and Hugh in Italy.

We count our blessings to have had Hugh Chappelle as our winemaker for many years, and the fact that he continues as our consultant. And because we know Hugh, we have had the pleasure of getting to know Sandra Simile. Sandra is a fabulous cook and really understands the art of food and wine pairing. Over the years, she has been the winery chef for Flowers Winery as well as Lynmar Winery. She is currently collaborating on a new wine label with Hugh that highlights both their fabulous skills!

While Jeannou, our french house guest, was visiting, we were invited down to lunch with Hugh and Sandra. Featured at this lunch was the Roasted Sweet Corn Bisque with Poblano Sour Cream that Sandra created to go with our 2010 Dry Riesling. What a beautiful pairing. The richness of soup marries perfectly with the brightness of the Riesling’s finish allowing the wine’s fruit to integrate with the sweetness of the roasted corn.

On selected weekends during our Riesling Month (July 2011), we are featuring this bisque alongside the 2010 Dry Riesling. So far, it’s been a real hit in the tasting room!

Enjoy!
